For the NHS to survive the next 75 years, it needs radical change

The NHS celebrates its 75th anniversary. While its concepts of equality of care and equity of access are admirable, it needs radical change to survive and thrive in the future. The system is burdened with overloaded hospitals, uneven access to care across the UK, and a workforce that feels undervalued and overworked. To address these issues, the change must be led by clinicians, validated by patients, and supported by politicians and administrators.
Stuart Bloom, a consultant physician and gastroenterologist at University College Hospital London, wrote an excellent piece for “The Guardian,” including a 6-step plan to transform performance and public perception of the NHS.
